Our House

I’d rather be out meandering around, as usual, but here I am self-quarantined at home, all because of the dreaded COVID-19 Coronavirus. I shouldn’t complain, though, since I have all the creature comforts afforded by the stately Motley Manor, including my BW (Beautiful Wife) and a furry comfort kitty.

“Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats in the yard. Life used to be so hard, now everything is easy ‘cause of you. I’ll light the fire, while you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today.” (“Our House” – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – 1970)

The other day, I did happen to venture out, but I remembered to keep a respectable distance from anybody else. It’s something called “social distancing.” And guess what I found? I found Waldo, who was also practicing the art of social distancing!

And speaking of social distancing, if you happen to encounter me while you’re out meandering, please remember to keep your distance. “Don’t stand, don’t stand so close to me. Please don’t stand so close to me. (“Don’t Stand So Close To Me – The Police – 1980)

While out, I ventured down the hill and back up the hill in search of toilet paper, and guess what I found? Empty shelves, so I did the next best thing and bought 1,500 paper napkins, just in case I run out of the genuine article. A word of caution, here…you can’t flush them, which means that they must be very discretely disposed of. Luckily, while out I was able to take advantage of the two-roll daily maximum purchase of bathroom tissue currently available at Goodwin’s.

With the stock market plunging, of late, this would be a great time to invest in a pizza parlor. I hear those guys are really rolling in dough (No pun intended…well, OK, so it was intended), what with their door-to-door delivery of pizzas and bread sticks. And it’s not just pizza parlors, The Cottage also delivers pizzas and their very yummy lasagna to your door; think I’ll give them a call tonight. Not to mention Goodwin’s Market, which also delivers hot food from their deli, as well as many grocery items. As of this writing, The Original Cottage in Rimforest is still delivering hot and cold meals, and so is the Stockade.

I feel fortunate that all these years I’ve been able to work from my home office and, when I’ve finished my writing for the day, I wander downstairs for a bite to eat, after which, it’s time to kick off my shoes and enjoy a romantic interlude with BW, which includes fresh-picked flowers in front of the warm fireplace (a word of advice…make sure you have a fireplace before attempting this).
