Fly like an eagle
It’s amazing how, the older you get, the faster time seems to move on by. This past year went by so quickly that I never had time to catch up with the year before, let alone finish painting the stately Motley Manor, a job I had begun last summer. Where did the time go?
“Time went by so quickly that I didn’t see it go, but I never saw it coming, so how was I to know? (“Remembering The Sun” – John Stewart – 1992)
I think the problem was that there were never enough sunny days during the summer to resume painting, let alone finish the job. Then came autumn and its incessant drizzle, rain and snowstorms of epic proportions…curses, foiled again! Not to mention that my insurance company threatened to cancel my homeowners’ insurance policy if I didn’t repaint my house.
Thankfully, the state insurance commissioner just gave all of us a reprieve by issuing a one-year moratorium on insurance cancellations in our so-called fire-prone community. That gives you and me until Dec. 5, 2020, to make our homes fire-safe. But even if we do that, there’s no guarantee we won’t get canceled next December.
Oh well, there’s always next spring or summer, but what if there isn’t enough sunshine or enough time to paint then, as well? I feel like I’m running out of time to do this and all the things I want to accomplish in the future. It’s almost as if the future is already here. Yikes! I just looked at the calendar and it’s already 2020…the future is here, the future is now, welcome to the future and the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century.
“Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’ into the future…” (“Fly Like An Eagle” – Steve Miller Band – 1976)
Now that the future has arrived, I think it’s time to do everything I can to put an end to global climate change, hunger and strife and finally achieve worldwide peace and harmony for all of mankind. But I can’t do it alone – I’ll need to enlist your help.
“Feed the babies who don’t have enough to eat, shoe the children with no shoes on their feet, house the people livin’ in the street. Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’ into the future…”
We must do all of these things and more if the future is to continue. Otherwise, all that will remain is the past and eternal darkness. I won’t feel free until all of this is achieved. But we’re running out of time…won’t you join me, so we can all be free together?
“Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’ into the future. I want to fly like an eagle to the sea, fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me. I want to fly like an eagle till I’m free.”
Keep it flyin’… like an eagle, Uncle Mott
