Master guitarist Carl Verheyen has been an adjunct instructor of studio jazz guitar for the USC Thornton School of Music and leads master classes worldwide, solo and with his Carl Verheyen Band.
On Wednesday, Aug. 26, Verheyen will offer a master class in the Rim High Performing Arts Center from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This class will bring together the Rim of the World High School and Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School music students. It is open to the public at no charge.
Kari Stebbing, the Rim High music director, will direct the class with Verheyen. This unique opportunity only presents itself every few years when a musical artist appearing at the Blue Jay Jazz Festival later in the week is willing to support our Rim students by holding an interactive master class that inspires students, current and future, by seeing, hearing and speaking with world class musicians here in our own community.
Fans first praised Verheyen in 1985 as a member of the smash hit British rock group Supertramp; he still tours each year to reconnect with them. He’s played on soundtracks for major movies, television shows and recordings by Christina Aguilera, John Fogarty, the Bee Gees, Little Richard, Dolly Parton, Glenn Frey and B.B. King.
Verheyen has taught private guitar lessons to top professionals like Maroon 5 and John Fogarty. Band members Troy Dexter, Hollye Dexter, John Mader and Federico Orlandini provide inspired and tight-knit backup.
Verheyen plays in the style of B.B. King and Eric Clapton and is ranked by Guitar Magazine as “One of the World’s Top 10 Guitarists.” He will appear in the Blue Jay Jazz Festival on Aug. 27. For more information and tickets, visit bluejayjazz.org.
This event is made possible by a grant from the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead.
