Here come the trout

Man holding caught fish by the lake.

We have started stocking trout at Lake Gregory.

John Mendez from “down the hill” got off to an early start. He started catching trout in his favorite spot before the truck from Calaveras Trout Farm even arrived. We call those fish “holdovers” as they are from last year.

Lake Gregory is well known for its ability to hold trout through all seasons because of its deep and cool snow melt water.

I talked to John after the stocking and watched him reel in his second for the morning. John said: “I like coming to this lake. It never does me wrong.” John gave me his permission to pass his photo along.
We have 10,500 pounds of trout coming this spring from two different suppliers. In addition to the Feb. 18 stocking of rainbow and lightning trout, we also have fish coming March 4, 18, 25, April 1, 15, 29 and May 13.

We look forward to another great year of fishing at Lake Gregory.
