Taking mountain biking to great heights

Jun 2, 2022 | Recreation & Entertainment

Mountain bikers wanting the thrill of speeding down a mountainside need go no further than Snow Valley Mountain Resort.

The resort’s six-person express chairlift is equipped with racks to take bikes up to the top of the slope.
Not a mountain biker? The chairlift will also take hikers and those just wishing to experience a scenic ride up to the top.

“At Snow Valley, our goal is to provide fun, affordable and healthy activities,” said Kevin Somes, the resort’s vice president and general manger. “We hope you’ll join us this summer and enjoy the mountain.”

Summer passes are available online at www.snow-valley.com. To ride the Snow Valley Express – the six-person lift – an electronic waiver must be signed in advance at ezwaiver.com/snowvalley.

Those taking a scenic ride to the top will travel 4,636 feet – over three-quarters of a mile – enjoying breathtaking views. You may spy the 11,503-foot peak of Mt. San Gorgonio or Old Greyback, the highest peak in Southern California.

Riders may spot bald eagles, peregrine falcons or bighorn sheep.

Mountain bikers can enjoy more than seven miles of trail for all levels of expertise – from a meandering beginner trail to more challenging intermediate trails to heart-pounding black diamond terrain.

Hikers can access a three-quarter-mile loop meandering through the San Bernardino National Forest, where they will spot a variety of flora and fauna.

After hiking, biking or just riding, guests may relax on the patio while enjoying some food and beverages.

These warm-weather activities will be available through Oct. 30 on Fridays from 1 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
