After the long hiatus created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the monthly meetings of the Mountains Group of the Sierra Club will resume on Monday, June 12.

The June 12 meeting will feature Dr. Jennifer B. Alford, associate professor of the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB). She is also director of the CSUSB Institute for Watershed Resiliency and associate director for CSU WATER.

Dr. Alford’s teaching focuses on hydrology related to water quality, environmental sustainability, policy, environmental education and community engagement. Her presentation will provide an overview of watershed research and education efforts in the Inland Empire including her involvement in the Headwaters Resiliency Partnership, the Regional Forest and Fire Capacity program and monitoring surface waters in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Joining Dr. Alford will be Kelley Giron, a CSUSB master’s student who will share a brief overview of her research studying the impacts of fire on headwater streams.

The meeting will be held at St. Richards Episcopal Church at 28708 Highway 18 in Skyforest and begins at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served and the public is encouraged to attend and see this compelling presentation, as well as to learn more about the ongoing activities of the Mountains Group of the Sierra Club.
