Fall is here! It’s time to put on sweaters and think about cozier activities.
To start things off, Crest Forest Senior Citizens’ Club is hosting an afternoon tea for its members on Wednesday, Oct. 18. It’s an intimate affair and seating is limited. The real fun begins the next day, Thursday, Oct. 19, when “Stuff Your Spud” returns for its third year. For a mere $6, guests will be able to load a freshly roasted Russet potato with theirr choice of fixins’ – sour cream, cheese, bacon bits, chili, etc. But wait, there’s more! An additional $6 will get them an ice cream sundae with their choice of toppings. The event is open to everyone and will take place at Leisure Shores from 4 to 7 p.m.
Earlier this year the club was the recipient of an AED (a defibrillation device) from the County of San Bernardino to have on hand in case of emergency. The club will have another training class on its use and on CPR this month, date to be announced. They are also looking into offering a Senior Safe Driving course through AARP. Those who take it are eligible for discounts on their car insurance.
The senior nutrition lunches continue at the San Moritz Lodge for people aged 60 and above. Lunch is served Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. The meal is free; however, a suggested $3 contribution is appreciated.
There is wide range of other groups for seniors that meet regularly at Leisure Shores, including yoga, movies, music and art. They recently added a photography group that meets twice a month.
Since 1959, the Crest Forest Senior Citizens’ Club has offered social, educational and life-enriching activities to seniors aged 50+ in the mountain communities.
The clubhouse, Leisure Shores, is located at 24658 San Moritz Drive, near the meadow in front of the San Moritz Lodge. Parking is limited as there are only 32 spaces; non-members run the risk of getting a ticket if parked there.
