Uncle Sam
Everything cooperated to make the 2023 Blue Jay holiday parade a 10! The weather was perfect, the crowd turned out and the marchers were in fine step.
Well before the first entry stepped off, Highway 189 through Blue Jay was lined with hundreds of folks waiting to hear that first note and spy the first entry.
The 42 entries began with Uncle Sam and ended, as is tradition, with Santa and Mrs. Claus. They arrived in a gorgeous white carriage, drawn by two white horses.

Mistress of ceremonies Gloria Loring announced each entry as it passed her viewing stand.
There was a three-way tie for the winner of the Best “It Takes a Village” award: Arrowhead Lake Association, Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead and Cub Scout Pack 264 and Boy Scout Troop 89.
Best Musical Presentation was awarded to the Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School marching band. Best Humor went to the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District (aka Whoville). And the Mistress of Ceremonies Choice was won by Cub Scout Pack 264 and Boy Scout Troop 89.

Cecilia Ponce de Leon, a member of the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead, helped pass out books to children along the parade route.
