The Heisler Theater is presenting a live suspense theater radio show at The Tudor House later this month and the tickets are on sale now.
On Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23 and 24, the shows are at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 25 the performance is at 4 p.m. The show lasts for one and a half hours.
The suspense-filled stories of the innocent-sounding “On a Country Road” and the radio play of “That Thing in the Window,” where even the title is suggestive of suspense and the unexpected, will be performed live in front of the audience. For those who have not witnessed the performance of a radio play, it is a unique experience and, although old time media, it’s very fascinating to observe the unique acting style used for radio performances. Communicating using only the voice and some sound effects is a different style of acting from doing stage or movie shows.
Seniors especially will remember that golden era of radio days, where suspense theater could be really engaging over the radio waves. They can remember sitting in a darkened room in the safety of their homes, listening to the radio, and yet being moved by the action of the show. In this in-person experience they can rekindle those memories and yet engage in a new way with a radio show. Although it will not erase those valued memories of childhood, it will give those memories new context.
The Heisler Theater wants to reintroduce the experience of watching the performance of radio theater, where the action is brought inside the mind though the ears and the suspense is emotional and exciting. These two plays have been especially chosen by director Jeff Heisler for this time and place and he is sure the audience will enjoy the plays and the performances.
Advance online tickets are $12 each; at the door, if any seats remain, tickets are $15 each. Dinner will be available at 5:30 p.m. at a separate price.
The Tudor House is located at 800 Arrowhead Villa Road in the Arrowhead Villas area of Lake Arrowhead. Buy your tickets soon, before they are sold out, at www.HeislerTheater.com.
Later this season, the Heisler Theater company will be presenting the mystery play of “Sherlock Holmes & the Star of Arabia,” an original production being produced for six performances over two weekends from April 26 through May 6. More information is on the website, where tickets are now being sold.
