Has your New Year’s resolution taken a backseat already? You’re not alone – I’m right there with you. But here’s a little nugget of encouragement just for you.

Honestly, I can barely recall my own New Year’s resolution. It seems it slipped through my fingers like sand. But is that really such a bad thing?

As the winter wraps us in its chilly embrace, it’s perfectly natural to feel the weight of our resolutions pressing down a bit too hard. The beauty of this season, though, lies in its invitation for introspection and self-care, rather than relentless pursuit of New-Year New-Me goals and aspirations.

Interestingly, our current calendar system, the Gregorian calendar introduced in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII, shifted New Year’s Day to January 1. Before this change, the New Year was welcomed with the arrival of spring – a time naturally resonant with new beginnings and growth. This shift has deeply influenced our cultural practices and the timing of our New Year celebrations. The New Year, once celebrated in the rejuvenating season of spring, invites us to rethink how and when we set our intentions for the year ahead.

The cold, shorter days of winter can indeed dampen our spirits and motivation. It’s crucial during these times to practice kindness toward ourselves. Reflect, rest and nurture your soul. Spring’s arrival will soon offer a fresh burst of energy and a more fitting backdrop for setting and chasing after those goals.

So, if your resolutions are currently on pause, fear not! This season is your cocoon, preparing you for the beautiful transformation that spring promises. And hey, why not explore some gentle, introspective practices? It could be the perfect companion for your winter reflections.

As we edge closer to spring, let’s look forward to realigning with our aspirations in harmony with nature’s rhythms. Perhaps, reconsidering our resolutions or setting new intentions in March or April might just be the perfect strategy.

For now, cherish the last little bit of the time period of hibernation, reflection and self-care. Spring will soon usher in a season of growth and renewed purpose, ready for us to step into with open hearts and ambitious goals and resolutions.

Remember, you’re moving perfectly with the flow of the seasons. Here’s to embracing the journey, with all its twists and turns, and welcoming the vibrant energy of spring with anticipation and open arms.
