Is it normal for a person a mere 76 years old to want to sleep in daily, especially when the fog brings a chill over the horizon? Is the mountain itself, as magical as it is, settling my spirit into a pathetic resolve?
I’m trying to say that, suddenly in the unexpected coolness of May, I’ve become joyously lazy, at peace, and drawn to quiet reading and Samsung TV. I’m hooked on the oldies of TV Land; the cast members of MacGyver and Diagnosis Murder have become like family.
Another culprit in my life is my elderly female dog. She stumbles when she walks and would rather rest and sniff in the stroller on our adventures, which have become extremely short and infrequent.
Should I worry that I am, as they say, “slowing down” before reaching the age of 80? Or is it best to rest these old bones and not wear them out prematurely? I’ve worked long and hard. Why do I feel a slight sense of shame at being able to simply sit and enjoy this year’s super bloom from the comfort of my worn and lumpy loveseat?
Smug Senior in Twin Peaks
Dear Smug,
Well, I never. Sounds to me like you’ve found paradise in the forest, yet you’re questioning its existence. Power shutoffs, tropical storms, unnatural snowfalls, incredible home insurance increases, and you’re worried over an extra three or four hours sleep?
On top of all that, Goodwin’s Market is up and running and they deliver!
Shame on you for belittling your envious lifestyle, when there are many that would trade places with you in a New York minute, which is, of course, a lot faster than a Rim of the World minute.
