Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities
It hurts to give up something you love: dancing, painting, needlework or driving. It’s a loss we mourn.
The board at Rebuilding Together Mountain Communities loves what we do but are coming to grips with the fact that we won’t be able to continue much longer without an infusion of new funds.
Because of the incredible amount of need after Snowmageddon, we were carried away with helping as many neighbors as we could, funding a total of 45 emergency repairs as well as funding Rebuilding Day. We spent more than $100,00 in repairs this last fiscal year.
As of this writing, we have stopped taking any new applications for emergency repairs. Unless we get additional funds, next April’s Rebuilding Day will be but a shadow of former years.
You may ask, how could you spend all that in a single year? We had several requests for major renovations and repairs, such as collapsed roofs and decks.
Thirty years ago, when Rebuilding Together started, the cost of repairs was much less expensive, and the homes were 30 years younger. Today we are up against some homes that are between 50 and 100 years old. Because of this the repairs are much more extensive.
So, I ask you – neighbor, organization, business owner, philanthropist or religious group – will you let us become just a footnote of mountain history or rally to help. Become part of the solution not the problem.
