Have you started your hunt for the biggest pine cone yet? There is still time to find the longest or the heaviest and enter it in this year’s Pine Cone Festival contest.
The annual Pine Cone Festival is just around the corner. Vendors and performers are getting ready for this year’s event, which will take place on Oct. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rim Nordic.
What can YOU do between now and then? Go searching for the world’s largest pine cone and enter the contest for the longest Sugar pine cone and/or the heaviest Coulter pine cone. Judges are lined up to inspect all the different sizes and weights of the cones. Winners will receive prizes for the largest/heaviest Coulter pinecone and the longest Sugar pine cone. Break the record and receive even more prizes.
Back again this year is Camp Cheekers, a fun place for kids to enjoy themselves with games, bounce house, facepainting and many other activities. It will even have an area for parents to sit and rest.
Are you the artistic type? Gather some cones and create entries for the pine cone craft contest. This year children in 6th grade and under will have the opportunity to create their entries at the festival under the guidance of volunteers from Church of the Woods. Youth from 7th grade and up through adults can bring creations from home to enter.
And to all athletes ages 3 to 93: Practice your pine cone Olympic skills – shot put, archery and hoop toss – to win prizes to local ski areas and more. Rim of the World High School band members will be on hand to help you do your best.
The Pine Cone Festival steering committee – made up of members of the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council, Church of the Woods, FUNDamental Concepts, Mountain Sunrise Rotary, Rim Family Services and others – invites you to this free family event, made possible by our many sponsors, including Rim Nordic, Snow Valley, Rim Recreation and Park District, Mountain Top Storage, and many more.
