The very popular series of books by R.L. Stine, Goosebumps, has been brought to life in Goosebumps The Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium, which will be presented by students in the Rim High drama program as their spring musical.

Goosebumps The Musical is based on Phantom of the Auditorium, Book 24 of the Goosebumps series. Book and lyrics are by John Maclay with music and lyrics by Danny Abosch.

It had simultaneous world premieres in the fall of 2016 in Milwaukee, Wisc., and Portland, Ore. Both were well received by critics.

As the story begins, we meet the heroine, Brooke Rodgers (Emily Salazar), her best friend Zeke Matthews (Kaden Spry) and their classmates at Woods Mill Middle School. The halls are filled with the excited chatter of the students as the news spreads that this year’s musical will be a “super scary play” called The Phantom.

Brooke and Zeke are thrilled to learn that they’ve won the starring roles as they both love all things spooky and scary. But, when strange, seemingly supernatural events begin interrupting rehearsals, the friends begin to wonder whether the show they’re acting in might be cursed.

When a mysterious figure dressed at the Phantom appears and warns the actors to stay away from his home, the students wonder if the play can go on.

They decide to take matters into their own hands and explore the school’s basement. What do they find? No spoilers here – come see the show!

In addition to Emily and Kaden, the cast includes Cadence O’Brien (Tina Powell), Orya Cohen (Ms. Walker), Nico Walsh (Emile), Justin Walker (Brian Colson), Luna Thompson (Anna), Jade Elias (Cami), Gwen Watson (Corey) and Soraya Murray (Steve). The ensemble is made up of Alejandro Barrios, Alex Cortez and Sierra Wilson.

No play can be mounted without a cast and crew. The stage manager is Emily Chaidez; assistant stage manager 1, Avrie Milford; assistant stage manager 2, Brooklyn Rangel; scenic design lead, Kian Brown; scenic crew, Hannah Ramsey, Jerry Zuleta, Lester Contreras and Irie Hill; lead sound, Boedy Reisner; sound crew, Corey Plooy; lead lights, Matthew Merola; properties manager, Layila Dennis; lead costume design, Iris Lake; lead hair and makeup, Brigid Mansfield; house manager, Piper Osterhold; vocal coach, Avrie Milford.

Opening night is April 25 at 6:00 p.m., followed by two shows on April 26 (2:00 and 6:00 p.m.), one show on May 2 (6:00 p.m.) and the closing show on May 3 at 2:00 p.m.
