The “Stuff Your Spud” dinner, held on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Crest Forest Seniors’ Leisure Shores clubhouse, saw a healthy turnout of more than 200 potato lovers.
According to event organizer Penny Shubnell, past president of the Crest Forest Senior Citizens Club, “We started out with 174 potatoes and ran out after about an hour, so we had to buy more potatoes. I’d say we had well over 200 persons here.”
Guests, who paid $5 to attend the three-hour event, had a choice of fillings for their spud that included butter, shredded and creamy cheese, bacon bits, sour cream, and chives. Peas were also available as a side dish. Dinner table conversation was lively and full of chuckles and laughter.
For another $5, guests could treat themselves to ice cream sundaes, with a choice of toppings that included chocolate, strawberry or caramel syrup, sprinkles, nuts, and whipped cream, with a cherry on top.
Proceeds from the yearly event help support the many charitable programs hosted by the senior citizens club.
