Lake Gregory Yacht Club capped off the season’s regattas (sailboat races) with its Rum Runner regatta.
Conditions were challenging with lake weeds having appeared in just one week. The course was modified to reduce the possibility of the boats being fouled by weeds and the radio-controlled boats eventually raced seven heats for two classes.
The larger boats were in class A and the smaller in class B. Brenda Cuzzi, helped by Nicole Brown, ran the club’s chase boat; they were kept busy rescuing boats getting stuck in the weeds.
First place in Class A was awarded to Jim Brown and second place to Mike Schachter, both visiting from HMYC in Long Beach. Third place was awarded to Michael Alcorn of LGYC. First place in class B was awarded to the husband and wife team of the Dixons who took the unusual step of sharing the controls during the regatta. Finishing in second place in class B was Gary Roszyk, a member of LAYC.
Following the regatta, the club handed out the awards with Fleet Captain Henry Johnson presiding. A barbecue for racers, members, and guests was well attended and everyone appeared well-fed.
