The California Highway Patrol’s recent, four-day-long July 4th weekend maximum enforcement period resulted in the arrest of nine motorists for driving on mountain area roads under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, said Arrowhead Area CHP Officer Jacob Griede.
This compares to seven DUI arrests made during the same four-day period in 2022, a 13-percent increase this year over last.
According to Officer Griede, two of this year’s nine DUI arrests were made on Tuesday, July 4.
In addition to the DUIs, Griede said, 113 citations were written, most of which were for exceeding the speed limit. There were also 14 traffic collisions with several minor injuries and two resulting in serious injuries. Figures for last year’s citations and collisions were not immediately available.
In offering advice to mountain area motorists, Griede said, “Please don’t drive if you are fatigued and don’t speed on mountain roads.”
