On Saturday, Jan. 20, deputies from the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a Crestline residence to follow up on a report of a missing person whose family hadn’t seen or heard from him since Sunday, Jan. 16.
The body of the missing person, identified by authorities as Christian Alan Petrie, 55, was discovered by a sheriff’s rescue crew in a forested area near the Mormon Monument turnout, between Highway 138 and Highway 18, around 1:27 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Lyndsi Solomon told the Alpine Mountaineer on Jan. 24 that Petrie’s white Toyota Camry was subsequently found at the Mormon Monument parking lot.
Petrie’s body was hoisted out of the forest and transported to the coroner’s office in San Bernardino, where an autopsy was to be performed. An autopsy report to determine the cause of death was still pending at press time.
Anyone with information regarding this incident (Case No. 052400097) is urged to contact the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station at (909) 336-0600.
