Farmers market vendor selling fresh produce

The Running Springs Farmers Market and Artisan Faire will open for the season on Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Despite the potential challenges the Oriental Fruit Fly quarantine could bring, the market will operate as usual with the variety of fruit and vegetables that shoppers have come to expect. All seven farmers are returning, although some later in the season. Enjoy more jams, jellies, baked goods and flowers in the farmer section in 2024. Forty additional vendors will be selling bread, seafood, sweet and savory treats, lunch, handmade crafts, art, information, clothing, jewelry and more.

The first 100 shoppers who spend $25 will a bag on opening day, which will feature a ribbon cutting. Later in the month, on April 27, spend $25 and win a gift certificate to a local business, while supplies last. An Earth Day scavenger hunt is planned for April 20.

Check Facebook and Twitter @RSFarmersMarket or Instagram @RS_FarmersMarket for vendor highlights, musician updates, fun happenings and weather cancellations.

Cathy Clemons, who coordinates the vendors, expresses a big thank you to the market’s customers, sponsors, and supporters like the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce, the primary sponsor; Farmers Market Chair Kevin Somes; the Running Springs Water District; Mountain Lifestyle newspaper; Starlight Photography; Running Springs Fire,; Burrows’ Weddings; Rim Nordic; Wears the Mountain; G & D Signs; many chamber volunteers; Burkitt’s Bugs Inc.; Rim of the World Recreation and Park District; Running Springs Rural Health Clinic; First Foundation Bank; the Running Springs library; and the many talented musicians who perform at the market.

The Running Springs Farmers Market and Artisan Faire is located at 2645 Whispering Pines Drive in Running Springs next to the Firehouse playground picnic tables. The last market day will be Nov. 23, 2024.

Other Running Springs events

At the March 12 meeting of the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce, President Kevin Somes said he hopes to have a series of Friday night events during the summer. He envisions folks coming to town for dinner, then enjoying a scavenger hunt and gathering to watch a movie.

This Saturday, March 30, there will be an Easter egg hunt starting at 9 a.m. in the field behind Firehouse Park (2645 Whispering Pines Drive).

There will be a community clean-up day on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizer Jaime Stiansen said participants should bring their own rakes, shovels or brooms. “We’ll provide gloves and trash bags,” she said. “We’ll meet at 9 a.m. on Commercial Way behind Neo’s and go out in groups to clean up town and the forest!”

Looking ahead to summer, Somes will organize the Memorial Day event in Running Springs, in honor of the late Joan Moseley who organized it for years.

Mike Lee announced Aug. 2 and 3 as the dates for Mountaintop Days. The parade will take place on Friday evening with games and other activities on Saturday.
