This 4-year-old lass said her favorite part of the parade, so far, was the horses parading along Lake Drive.
Even with the temperature hovering on the 90s, thousands of local residents and visitors from throughout Southern California flocked to Crestline for last weekend’s annual Jamboree Days celebration.
It all kicked off on Sunday, June 30 with a community picnic on the San Moritz Meadow, with food, bounce houses for the kids and games and competitions, such as a watermelon eating contest, potato sack races and a three-legged race for all ages.
The upcoming parade and fireworks extravaganza were promoted by Redlands radio station KCAA, when Jamboree Days Coordinator Dirk Rinker and Alpine Mountaineer staff writer Rhea-Frances Tetley were interviewed on the AM radio station.
Between June 30 and July 6, tourists arrived and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere offered by Crestline’s Lake Gregory, such as fishing, swimming and relaxing on the beach. Things livened up on Saturday, July 6 when the Jamboree Days parade stepped off around 10 a.m. with marching bands, drill teams and beautifully decorated floats.
Owing to the extreme heat, there were a couple of snafus that occurred during the parade, such as when the historic, 1929 Crestline Studebaker fire truck and the Rim of the World Historical Society’s 1951 Crestline Bus both overheated and had to be towed away.

Popular KOLA FM 99.9 DJ Jesse Duran awarded T-shirts to those who correctly answered his quiz questions.

The Crestline Soaring Society was awarded the Theme Trophy for the best depiction of this year’s theme, “Amazing Adventures.”
Rinker reported that the following trophies were awarded to parade participants:
• Showmanship Trophy: Toni’s Kitchen for their mariachi band and 16 dancing horses.
• Americana Trophy: VOE PTA for their over-the-rainbow float.
• Charles S. Mann Trophy for commercial entries: McDonalds.
• Arthur Gregory Trophy for nonprofit entries: Lake Gregory Yacht Club.
• Theme Trophy: Crestline Soaring Society.
• Judges Trophy: Thousand Pines.
After the parade, there were many vendor booths offering hot dogs, Mexican foods, Hawaiian shaved ice, as well as a booth featuring a popular KCAL 99.9 FM DJ who gave away T-shirts and stickers.
Prior to the annual fireworks extravaganza, there was an invitation-only dinner served at the North Shore patio, with a band entertaining on stage. As it grew dark, a Cal Fire helicopter circled the lake several times with its siren blaring, to inform the crowd that the fireworks show was about to begin.
All in all, it was a delightful weekend for everyone involved.
