Special to the Alpine Mountaineer
Mountain Top Days – the annual summer event that takes place in Running Springs each August – occurs over a two-day period. It begins with a parade on Friday night and continues with an extended farmers market with games and events the next day. This year’s theme is “Our Town.” Join in for a weekend of fun!
This year’s Mountain Top Days begins Friday, Aug. 2, with a parade at 6 p.m. Attendees can expect to see local first responders, Smokey Bear, floats from local business, local youth and senior line dancers. That is just the beginning! The Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce has over 25 confirmed parade entries with more being submitted each day. It is looking like it could be the largest Mountain Top Days parade yet.
Those participating in the parade will line up at Old City Creek Road at 5:30 p.m. with the parade stepping off at about 6:15.
Following the parade, there will be a band playing behind the businesses on Commercial Way. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes!

Part of the challenge of the egg toss is not getting any egg on your shoes.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, events will begin at 9 a.m. at the farmers market. Throughout the day there will be group games for all participants, including a bicycle race, an egg toss and a watermelon eating contest. Attendees will also be able to participate in games at booths; there will be a fishing game, crafts, cornhole and more, with prizes of course.

The Running Springs Fire Department took back their bucket brigade crown last year. Will they retain it this year?
Rim of the World Recreation and Park District has donated a bounce house for young guests to enjoy. Mountain Top Days also hosts a bucket brigade contest between the Running Springs and Arrowbear Fire Departments. The competition is always fierce!

The Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce will once again be giving away backpacks and school supplies during the farmers market on Saturday, Aug. 3.
Each year at Mountain Top Days, the Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce holds a backpack and school supplies giveaway for local school-aged children. Those interested can visit the chamber booth at the farmers market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., while supplies last.
