Dear Sidney,
I am someone who is very sensitive to the energies of those around me. When I feel a negative energy from someone, it really overwhelms me to the point that I hold on to that energy for a long time and find it difficult to release it out of my body. This draws my attention away from the positive aspects of my life that I want to focus on.
I was wondering if you had any advice on methods and/or exercises I could use to protect my peace.
Thank you very much for your help!
Emotional Sponge
Dear Sponge,
It is my belief and my experience that 99 percent of the negative energy you perceive is actually geared inwardly to the person, because nowadays nobody gives a rat’s behind about anyone else. Whereas, you may be so wrapped up in your own feng shui to the point that you think their negative energy is aimed at you, that it’s all about you. It may not be.
Here are a few hints to protect your peace. Repeat this perfect saying: “Bless your heart.” Use it daily, whenever you feel you’ve been de-energized. Limit your visits to the post office and its parking lot to once a week and choose wisely when seating yourself at Goodwin’s ice cream counter. Keep your head high and always have a big fat smile on your face. Fight negativity with overpowering glee. You may piss a few ungrateful bullies off, but your body’s inner glow will thank you for it.
(If you qualify as a senior, free Tai Chi classes begin Monday, Oct. 21 at the Crest Forest Senior Citizens’ Club on the San Moritz shoreline. That, too, should help.)
