Scouting for Food: A way to help your neighbors

Nov 6, 2024 | Communities, Lake Arrowhead

The Boy Scouts of America invite you and your neighbors to support our local food bank, Operation Provider, on Saturday Nov. 9. Smiling Scouts will greet you while you shop at local grocery stores in Crestline, Blue Jay and Lake Arrowhead.

“Scouting for Food” has been an annual “good turn” community service program performed by Scouts of all ages in the California Inland Empire Council since 2001.

On NOF. 9 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., uniformed Scouts will distribute a printed list of suggested food items most needed by Operation Provider to store patrons as they enter. As patrons exit the store, they may present the donated items to a Cub or Boy Scout and the food will be collected for delivery to Operation Provider. Collected food will be delivered by the Scouts, their parents and adult Scout leaders of the Gray Arrow District, California Inland Empire Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The Gray Arrow District Boy Scouts will be collecting primarily non-perishable food items from shoppers in these communities at participating grocery store entrances. Stater Bros, Goodwin’s Market and Jensen’s have been supporting the Scouts’ efforts for 24 years. Please encourage your families, friends and neighbors to help the Scouts do a meaningful “good turn” for our communities by donating food items intended for needy families that reside in our mountain area, especially during this economic inflationary time impacting all residents.

Scouting has been building character and developing leaders for over a century in this country. If you have any questions in respect to Scouting for Food, please contact the local Mountain Boy Scout Commissioner, Jim Newcomb, at JLNewcomb@aol.com or (909) 754-6157. Scouting is open to youth from kindergarten through high school. For more information, visit www.IEScouts.org.
