Teacher presenting lesson in colorful classroom.

Each year Soroptimist International of Rim of the World presents dictionaries to third-grade students and thesauruses to fifth-grade students at Charles Hoffman Elementary (CHE) School in Running Springs.

On Feb. 20, four members of the Soroptimist Club went to CHE to present and distribute the dictionaries and thesauruses. Soroptimist members distributed the books to the students in each third and fifth-grade class and engaged the students in a discussion of what the books have to offer and how they can improve their reading comprehension and writing skills.

Other fun things that the dictionary and thesaurus provide were also discussed to show the students how the books could help with their studies. These included the list of dinosaurs in the thesaurus and the many valuable tools in the dictionary, such as the multiplication table and list of weights and measures. The teachers also participated and expressed appreciation for the donations.

Students from each class were very grateful for receiving the books and were looking forward to using them in school and at home.

The Soroptimists also donated four dictionaries to the CHE library.

Soroptimist Deborah Fancett explains the many features of the dictionaries she and her fellow Soroptimists gave to the third-graders.
