The Crestline Chamber of Commerce has been working hard this winter getting activities planned for this spring and summer. They are working in conjunction with the local businesses in attracting visitors and providing services and products for the local residents.
One of the big projects currently under way is Crestline magazine, which will be published in time for Memorial Day weekend. Currently, they are accepting ads from businesses that want to be included in the magazine, which will provide exposure for local businesses to mountain residents and visitors alike. The magazine will be mailed to every P.O. box on the mountain, from Cedarpines Park to Running Springs. The stories have been assigned and the writers are currently being creative and writing interesting stories about the town. All that needs to be completed is, if you are a business chamber member, to be sure your address and business names are accurate, so when printed they are correct so customers can contact you.
The Chamber is welcoming two new businesses to town with ribbon-cutting ceremonies this month. On Friday, April 4th, they will be cutting the ribbon to open The Perch in Twin Peaks. On Friday, April 18th they will finally cut the ribbon (after several weather delays) to Earth Elements, at the corner of Lake Drive and Thousand Pines Road. Both ribbon cuttings are at 9 a.m. They invite members of the Chamber of Commerce and the public to attend.
The annual Duck Derby, which in the past has been held near Easter, has been scheduled to occur on Sunday, June 29, the weekend before Jamboree Days during the Community Picnic at The Meadow next to the San Moritz Lodge. The reason for this change is the past two years the egg hunt had to be postponed at the last minute due to the snowstorms. This will enable more folks to see and cheer their duck to victory. Duck Derby ticket sales will be announced later this month.
Also at the Community Picnic the hatting of the Grand Poobah will take place around noon. The Duck Derby will occur in a brand-new way, near the end of the picnic around 4 p.m. Other events during the picnic include relay races, watermelon eating contests and other fun community events.
The traditional Easter Sunrise Services will be held on Easter Sunday, April 20, from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. on the patio of Lake Gregory that faces the eastern sky. Free parking will be available in the North Shore lot. The services are being coordinated by the ministers of the Crestline area Christian churches prior to their own Easter services. They will be giving the story of the good news of the resurrection of Jesus, which is celebrated at Easter as the sun crests over the trees of the eastern mountains that morning. This is just one instance where the local Christian church ministers work together over the year to make positive events happen for the whole community. They also coordinate each year to make the Christmas tree lighting occur each December at the same location.
Another event mentioned during the Chamber meeting was the annual Bowling For Education fundraiser at Rim Bowling Lanes on Saturday, April 13. During this event, various teams from local non-profits and individuals will face off for the honor of winning the costume prize (cowboy theme) and raising funds for Rim Education Foundation, which supports Rim School District programs. The 12:30 p.m. event is $60 per bowler and $20 per spectator. Rim Bowling is located at 23991 Lake Drive in Crestline. To register, contact Ana Rojas at (727) 776-8128.
The Spring Fling at Leisure Shores is being held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 and, if last year is any example, it will be an entertaining and exciting evening. This adults-only event will have adult beverages, games of chance with prizes, a talent show and food. Their headliner is magician Zac Swan. Tickets in advance are $30 per person. Costumes are suggested, so dress as you would have in high school, whatever decade that was, and they are looking forward to those miniskirts!
The Brawlin’ Brews wrestling event, sponsored by San Marzano Brewery and others at Lake Gregory’s South Beach pavilion, will be also held that day on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is a championship belt competition, with five Pro Wrestling matches held that day. See another article in this newspaper for more details.
The Crestline Chamber of Commerce is also actively working on getting the Crestline Chamber of Commerce building ready for tourists who are expected to visit this summer. The building’s back deck, which was damaged a year ago, has been replaced with a brand-new ADA-accessible ramp to the brand-new doors that have been installed at their Visitor’s Center at 24385 Lake Drive on the north shore of Lake Gregory. These commercial grade glass doors are very inviting, as now visitors can see into the building, and soon the new ADA restroom building will be installed behind the back parking lot on the regional park grounds. The chamber’s office hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Tuesday through Saturday. Stop by, and when the magazine is published, come get extra copies to give to your friends to encourage people to visit Crestline.
The Crestline Chamber has been actively coordinating the Corks ‘n Hops events that begin in June and will be on the 1st Saturday of each month through October. Visit their website at www.corksnhops.com for tickets. The annual Jamboree Days event is set for July 5, with the annual parade at 10 a.m. and an all-day festival featuring music, food and vendors’ booths. The fireworks over the lake are scheduled for 9 p.m. More details will be forthcoming.
For those who want to be involved in the chamber’s organizational meetings for Jamboree Days, all community members are invited to be involved in the planning of the event. The theme is “Crestline Vibes-2025.” The planning meetings are the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at the chamber office at 5:30 p.m. Crestline is looking forward to welcoming many visitors this spring and hopes locals stop by and get involved in the activities and fun.
