Innovative new technology detects and monitors non-convulsive seizures

Medical device monitoring brain activity in patient.

Mountains Community Hospital (MCH) has introduced the Ceribell System, an innovative, FDA-cleared EEG device powered by artificial intelligence (AI). This breakthrough technology allows for rapid detection and monitoring of non-convulsive seizures, giving clinicians the ability to make fast, life-saving decisions right here in our community.

Non-convulsive seizures are difficult to detect and can quickly become life-threatening if untreated. These seizures occur without obvious symptoms, making them difficult to detect and often delaying treatment. They are commonly triggered by conditions such as brain injuries, cardiac arrest, stroke or sepsis.

The Ceribell System uses an easy-to-apply headband and AI software to deliver results in minutes, helping doctors begin treatment without delay. This advancement means more patients can receive critical neurological care locally, reducing the need for non-urgent transfers to larger facilities and keeping patients closer to home.

“Every minute matters when it comes to seizures,” said Julie Davis, director of Acute Care at MCH. “By using Ceribell, we can provide faster, more accurate care while avoiding unnecessary transfers – improving outcomes for our patients and peace of mind for their families.”

The addition of Ceribell underscores MCH’s commitment to bringing advanced technology to rural healthcare, ensuring that mountain residents and visitors have access to the same high-quality treatment available in larger hospitals.
