Victim runs to business for help after being stabbed – Suspect arrested

On Sunday, Sept. 7, at approximately 5:39 p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Twin Peaks Station, responded to the 23700 block of Lake Drive in the community of Crestline regarding a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Deputies contacted the victim and learned the suspect, later identified as Darrell Darling, 29 of Crestline, began arguing with a female driver while the victim was seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle. The victim exited the vehicle and began walking away from the scene. Darling followed the victim in his truck, pulled up alongside him, exited the vehicle and threatened to kill him.

Darling then produced a knife and began swinging it at the victim, striking him in the side. The victim ran to a nearby business to seek help. The victim was treated at the location by fire personnel and transported to a local hospital for additional medical treatment.

Darling fled the area in his vehicle. A description of the suspect and his vehicle was broadcasted and, a short time later, Darling was located near Old Waterman Canyon by Cal Fire law enforcement officers. Following a brief vehicle pursuit, Darling was taken into custody without further incident.

Darling was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center for violation of California Penal Code 664/187 (attempted murder).
