Burglary suspect possibly linked to more burglaries in Big Bear Lake

On Sept. 20, at approximately 9:30am, a homeowner arrived at his part-time residence and discovered the front door was open. Upon closer observation, the man noticed the door lock to his front door and the lock to his attic door were damaged and items were missing from inside the residence.

Jacob Matara

At approximately 10:24 a.m., the homeowner called Big Bear Sheriff’s Station to report the crime. Surveillance camera footage from a nearby residence show a subject attempting to open the front door and leaving when he saw the camera. The subject then walked in the direction of the burglarized residence.

Investigators identified the subject as Jacob Matara, a 40-year-old Big Bear City resident. Matara was arrested in connection with another Big Bear Lake burglary that occurred on Sept. 14, 2025.

Investigators are seeking to identify any additional victims that may be connected to this case (No. 162501012/162501032). If you believe your home was burglarized between Aug. 31, 2025, and Sept. 14, 2025, contact Deputy F. Sanchez at the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is urged to contact Big Bear Sheriff Station at (909) 866-0100. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-Tip hotline at (800) 78-CRIME (27463) or leave information on the website at wetip.com.
