As the Women’s Club of Lake Arrowhead approaches its 100-year anniversary – which will take place next January – their membership is growing, nearing the 100 mark at 92.
At their Sept. 17 meeting, held at the Lake Arrowhead Sport Grille, Marcy Vega, the CEO of the Mountain Communities Boys & Girls Club, was the guest speaker.
“I have a dream,” Vega told the women. “I would like to make our program a free program for families.” To do that, she said, the club has to raise funds and apply for grants.

Polly Sauer also presented a $1,000 donation to Janet Ward, representing ROWIA.
They currently have two sites open, in Lake Arrowhead and in Crestline. Their two other sites – at Valley of Enchantment and Charles Hoffman Elementary Schools – were shut down after the Covid pandemic.
Vega stressed that the Boys & Girls Club program is an enrichment program, not day care. She sees the need for middle school and high school programs, something she hopes to achieve in the near future.
Currently, representatives from Mountain Counseling & Training come once a week, “teaching the kids to behave with one another,” Vega said.
“We have a great staff – they are very loyal,” she added, noting that “the kids keep me young.”
WCLA President Polly Sauer presented Vega with a $1,000 donation from the club.
Sauer also presented a $1,000 donation to Janet Ward, representing ROWIA (Rim of the World Interpretive Association), who told the women about the trail and other features at Heaps Peak Arboretum.
