Local author shares powerful story of loss, resilience

Jan 15, 2026 | Arts & Culture, Crestline

For local author Danielle Enborg, the San Bernardino Mountains are more than just a backdrop, they are home. Raised in Crestline, Enborg credits the mountain community with shaping who she is, instilling values of resilience, connection and a deep sense of belonging that continue to influence both her life and her writing.

Her recently released book, The Last Light at Willow Creek, explores themes of love, loss, resilience and healing, drawn from her own lived experiences. The work is deeply personal, written in the aftermath of the devastating loss of her son.

During one of the darkest seasons of her life, writing became a lifeline, a way to process grief, make sense of the unimaginable and slowly find moments of light again.

Through her story, Enborg reflects on grief and hope, as well as the quiet strength required to keep moving forward. These themes, she believes, resonate strongly within close-knit mountain communities, where neighbors often become family and shared hardship fosters deep bonds.

Sharing this book holds special meaning for Enborg because it comes from someone who truly understands the heart of the mountain. Her roots in Crestline remain a powerful part of her journey, and her story stands as a testament to the healing power of storytelling and to the strength found in community.

For many local readers, Enborg’s work is not just a book, but a reflection of mountain life itself: resilient, compassionate and deeply human.

Enborg will be signing her book at Reigning Pages Book Shoppe on Jan. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m.
