It’s an idea that grew out of the two Community Givebacks that Chad Logan organized.

Logan learned about the incredible amount of surplus goods that are available each year. Why not, he thought, bring some of those goods to the mountain.

And so, Mountain Deals Bargains and Bin Finds was born.

Logan has set up shop at 27240 Highway 189 in Blue Jay, the same location where he held the Community Giveback events.

Chad Logan gets ready to cut the ribbon for the grand opening of his new store, Mountain Deals Bargains and Bin Finds.

Folks couldn’t wait to take a look at what was available. On Saturday, May 2, Logan and his crew welcomed folks – who started lining up an hour before the store’s opening. But before the doors opened, the Lake Arrowhead Communities Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting. Both Executive Director Lori Butler and Scott Rindenow, president of the chamber’s board of directors, welcomed Logan and his store.

Robin Bull, representing Supervisor Dawn Rowe, presented Logan with a certificate of recognition.

And then folks descended on the long tables filled with treasures just waiting to be found. Some folks had armfuls of items; others loaded up shopping carts.

The items on the tables all have a single price, which changes daily. The store will be closed for restocking on Thursdays and Fridays. When the doors open on Saturday, there will be all new inventory in the bins; that day the price is $12. That price drops by $2 each day until they are $4 on Wednesday.

Some of the bin items are single treasures; multiples are available of others.

In addition to the tables full of bin items, the shelves that line the sides of the store have non-bin items. On opening day there were microwave ovens, sandals, speakers for the patio and more.

Since filing his federal tax ID number, Logan said, he has been contacted by numerous wholesalers, anxious to sell their wares to him. He took me on a tour of the back area where pallets of items are waiting to be put out on the floor. There is clothing from top name brands with their tags still on them.

Logan would like to hear from the community as to what products they would like to see in the store. He can then “shop” for those from the wholesalers.

Mountain Deals is open Saturday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by and dive in – you never know what treasure you will find!
