The eagerly awaited Country Faire, which takes place over Labor Day each year, is set for Sept. 4 and 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Lake Arrowhead Community Presbyterian Church.
“This is our 44th year,” said the Rev. Dr. Bill Stanley, the church’s pastor. He added that “the Faire has become a staple for our mountain community and visitors alike. Whether working, donating or buying, hundreds participate each year.
Co-chairs of the event are Running Springs resident Stefanie Morrell and Cedar Glen resident Lori Cook. In talking about donations that had already been made, Morrell said, “We’re getting some outstanding items – it’s exciting. We only ask that donations be clean and lightly used.”
The Faire accepts housewares; linens; woodworking and metalworking tools; sporting goods; gardening tools and decorations; holiday decorations; sporting goods; women’s clothing; children’s and youth’s clothing; handmade items; craft supplies; artwork and toys. While the Faire accepts furniture, donors should call ahead to confirm the furniture item is acceptable. A number of items cannot be accepted: VHS tapes and DVDs; electronics; computers; mattresses; large appliances such as TVs and refrigerators; books; and men’s clothing. The Faire cannot transport items.
The Faire includes a silent auction of high value items. In the past, we have been able to auction off jewelry; exceptional musical instruments such as violins, Fender guitars and antique Victrolas; artwork including a colorized etching of Beethoven’s house superimposed with the first line of his Eroica piano concerto and a large collection of Byer caroling figurines.
A barbecue lunch and baked goods will be available for a donation on the church grounds each day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Proceeds from the Faire support the church’s ministry in the communities. More than 50 members of the church volunteer their time to make the Faire a success. Volunteers are welcome and should call the church, located at 351 Highway 173, at (909) 336-1502.
