A residential structure fire of yet-to-be-determined origin laid waste to a home in the 23100 block of Sycamore Lane in the Valley of Enchantment, just west of Crestline, on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Sources said first responders from the San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived to find a multi-story residence fully engulfed in flames.
A department spokesperson told the Alpine Mountaineer on Tuesday, Sept. 29 that the fire spread quickly, leaving a neighboring home approximately 30 percent involved with an extension into the surrounding vegetation.
Assisting agencies included Cal Fire and the USFS. When all was said and done, the incident commander reported a “knockdown” on the blaze that had severely affected two residences.
According to a nearby neighbor, a total of eight persons were displaced by the conflagration, two of whom relocated to Hollywood and five family members that included a husband and wife and three children, including a one-year-old. Others affected include two adult women and a renter who, with assistance from the Red Cross, were sent to Thousand Pines Camp and Sleepy Hollow Motel.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family recover from this total loss; donate here – bit.ly/4daF8Sg.
