Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station Deputy Omar Romero-Rios was honored by San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus on Nov. 30 for arresting six car thieves and recovering six stolen and six abandoned vehicles with a total value of $75,000.
According to Twin Peaks Station Assistant Commander Lt. Craig Harris, the arrests were made over a 12-month period; the vehicle thefts all occurred in the mountain communities.
Sheriff Dicus presented what Harris called a “Stolen Vehicle Award,” which is jointly sponsored by the California Highway Patrol and the Auto Club. Deputy Romero-Rios told The Alpine Mountaineer that he has been awarded four such awards during his six-year career with the sheriff’s department.
The arrested suspects, Harris said, were variously charged with grand theft auto or possession of stolen property.
“Deputy Romero-Rios was honored for his diligence in keeping the mountain communities safe and ensuring the protection of peoples personal property,” Lt. Harris added.
