Man succumbs to injuries following 330 crash

Early on the morning of Dec. 27, CHP officers responded to reports of a crash on State Route 330 south of Live Oak Drive.
A motorist had reportedly been driving his Ford Focus southbound at an apparent high rate of speed. For unknown reasons at this time, he was unable to maintain control and his vehicle left the roadway.
Subsequently, the vehicle drove off the dirt embankment, became airborne and crashed into the mountainside. After the initial impact, the vehicle overturned repeatedly. The driver was ejected as he was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver sustained multiple injuries and succumbed to them at the scene.
At press time, the coroner’s office had not yet released the name or community of residence of the driver pending notification of next of kin. They are also conducting blood tests to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
CHP Officer Jacob Griede said they were able to retrieve the vehicle and are determining why it went over the side of SR 330. In addition, he noted that there was no smell of alcohol in the vehicle.
