Turn around, don’t drown

With heavy rain having fallen all night and into the early morning of Jan. 10, the Arrowbear Lake bridge was flooded. Motorists were advised to take a different route. On the west side of the mountain, it was reported on Facebook on Jan. 10 at about 6 a.m. that there were small to medium-sized rocks all over southbound Highway 18 just before the final turn before the long straightway down to San Bernardino. “Seven or eight cars are pulled over with damage to their tires,” Alan Taylor wrote. Highway 18 from Snow Valley to Big Bear had been closed due to rock slides but reopened. However, Caltrans warned motorists that slides would likely continue throughout the storm.
