Rim wrestlers capture league championship

For the first time in five years, Rim of the World High School’s boys varsity wrestling team captured the CIF Southern Section League championship by defeating Carter High School’s award-winning team by a score of 55 to 20 points on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
Of the match, which took place on Carter’s home campus in Rialto, Rim wrestling coach Joey Dorsey told The Alpine Mountaineer last Friday, “It’s been five long years since we took the league championship. Before this, we were riding a 17-year streak of championship victories.”
As for what he attributes Rim’s latest victory to, Coach Dorsey – a former Rim wrestling team member – said, “The kids worked hard, and they were not willing to give up; everyone did their job.”
When asked which teammate excelled the most during the match, Dorsey commented, “Even though he lost his match, freshman Vandal Loya did not give up the pin. He had a smile on his face, which frustrated his opponent.”
Dorsey added, “Vandal’s brother, Roman, who is ranked 48th in the state, beat a kid who is ranked 28 statewide.”
