Truck takes down power lines and pole

At approximately 12:42 p.m. on Feb. 20, 2023, The Alpine Mountaineer was made aware of an incident of interest happening at the intersection of Lake Gregory Drive, Highway 189 and Highway 18.

On arrival at the scene, it was observed that a big rig truck, which had been heading south on Lake Gregory Drive toward Highway 18, had hit a major power line and took down a power pole. The truck was entangled in power lines and the pole was lying in the middle of Lake Gregory Drive.

Fire officials had arrived and were blocking Highway 189 while local sheriff’s personnel blocked Lake Gregory Drive from traffic so that technicians could work on freeing the truck. As of 2:00 p.m., the truck was still entangled and Lake Gregory Drive and Highway 189 were still blocked in both directions.

Some local businesses reported that they were without power and working with generators while crews worked to rectify the issue.
