As part of our ongoing series of restaurant visitations, The Alpine Mountaineer paid a visit on Friday, April 7 to the recently reopened RoadHouse Pizza Restaurant, located at 565 Forest Shade Road, just around the corner from Lake Drive in Crestline.

Their other location in Lake Arrowhead closed following the passing of previous owner, Marlyn Clark, in 2021. However, Clark’s family kept the Crestline location open until it was sold recently.

RoadHouse is currently managed by Cyrus Simmons, who until recently had worked at Jetties Waterfront Restaurant in Lake Arrowhead Village. According to Simmons, he had learned the art of making pizza from Clark while both worked at RoadHouse.

The Motley family enjoyed their half Hawaiian-half Italian sausage pizza with a small dinner salad.

Simmons obviously learned his lesson well, as last week’s visit to RoadHouse was a total pleasure. This reporter, his wife and oldest son ordered a large, thin crust half Hawaiian (ham and pineapple) and half sausage pizza, accompanied by a freshly made lettuce salad adorned with tomato, bell pepper and onion slices, topped with blue cheese dressing. With its abundant Italian-style sauce and cheese, it was honestly the very best pizza I’ve ever had.

Crestline residents Josh Snyder and Saundra Fischer enjoyed their Hawaiian pizza with salami.

Seated nearby were Josh Snyder and Saundra Fischer, who were also enjoying a Hawaiian pizza with salami instead of ham. They said it was wonderful.

Also seated nearby was the Najera family from Lake Arrowhead. When asked what brought him to RoadHouse, Gilbert said, “I was just driving by and found it. So far, we’ve been here three times.” They too were having the Hawaiian pizza with pepperoni on half, along with some chicken wings slathered in a zesty red sauce.

The restaurant wasn’t very crowded  with people eating at tables or booths, likely owing to the short time they’ve been open; however, they seemed to be having a steady flow of take-out customers.

On the overhead menu display there is a selection of eight appetizers, ranging from cheesy breadsticks to garlic parmesan twists. The pasta menu features chicken bacon alfredo with spinach, meatball marinara, penne pasta with sausage or chicken and veggie penne pasta.

The specialty pizza menu has eight items, ranging from garlic chicken supreme to veggie supreme. Prices range from $13.99 to $21.99. On the “create your own” menu are no less than 20 items, including artichoke hearts, zucchini, mushrooms, Roma tomatoes and one-topping or cheese pizzas ranging from $10.99 to $17.99. The family meal deals menu offers a large two-topping pizza, breadsticks and a large salad for $29.99, while the large specialty pizza includes hot wings, a large salad and four soft drinks for $43.95. Soft drinks and beer and various desserts are also available.

For take-out, delivery or to order ahead, call (909) 338-5040.

One thing for sure is that this reporter plans on returning soon.
