Funding for new heating and air conditioning units and major repairs to a very leaky roof at the Crest Forest Senior Citizens Club have been approved by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.
At its Aug. 8 meeting, the board unanimously approved $238,458 for new heating, ventilation and air conditioning at Leisure Shores at Lake Gregory. That was followed up on Sept. 9 when supervisors unanimously approved $105,332 for the roof project at Leisure Shores, the building where the club’s members meet.
“I am so excited about this,” said Penny Shubnell, the club’s president.
Shubnell said the building has three outdated and very inefficient heaters in the facility. The club also wants air conditioning.
“I always wanted to make this facility a cooling center,” she said.
Representatives from the county recently came out to inspect conditions and they all agreed the heaters were insufficient and that air conditioning was needed.
Then there’s that very leaky roof.
“They (county representatives) know the roof has been leaking at Leisure Shores, mostly in the women’s bathroom and in the office,” Shubnell said. “The leaks are actually puffing out the walls.”
Another issue is much needed paint for the outside of the building.
“There are certain sections where the paint is peeling and boards need to be replaced,” she said.
Shubnell is proposing club members volunteer to do the painting. She wants to the paint entire building.
“I want to have a painting and pizza party,” she added.
