Volunteers spruce up the meadow

People planting trees in a park.

On Nov. 11, a group of volunteers – including veterans, local residents and SkyPark at Santa’s Village staff – spent the day sprucing up the meadow at SkyPark. They planted native plants and seeds and spread mulch to help conserve water, improve soil health and control non-native weeds.

The goal of this ecological restoration along the Henck Meadowlands Conservation Trail is to restore natural habitat and create a more diverse ecosystem. Native plants provide nectar for pollinators and food and shelter for wildlife. These efforts also help to preserve the natural beauty of the area and provide visitors with an opportunity to connect with nature while also learning about the importance of conservation.
