The Crestlights home and business holiday lighting contest is entering its fifth year. This contest is designed to recognize those who make the Crestline community sparkle with holiday joy and lift the spirits of those who see them. It is easy to be involved and anyone who puts up exterior lighting for the holidays is invited to enter the contest.

The coordinator of this annual contest, Grayson Lopez, believes this year, of all years, needs something extra to make it sparkle. He hopes this contest will encourage families and businesses to put forth that little bit of extra effort to bring up the spirits of all.

“I would love to see the talents of our residents shine and literally make our mountain shine,” said Lopez, who added, “I hope this contest makes Crestline the sparkling Christmas jewel of the mountaintop.”

This is a free contest; all participants just need to decorate their home or business and then sign up so they are in the contest. Even homes with only one string of lights should register. It is hoped folks begin registering soon so Lopez can create a small map of those who are participating, enabling everyone to be able to drive around and enjoy the many decorated homes and business.

It is hoped that Crestlights will be another way to encourage businesses to decorate their store fronts, paint their windows, and an opportunity for residents who like to decorate their homes to get some recognition and drive-bys. There will be a first-place trophy and prizes for second and third place in the two categories of business or residential.

This year, it is anticipated that those shops that normally decorate their stores will also register and get involved so the community can be aware of the décor and go see it.

It is easy and free to enroll in the Crestlights competition. Call Lopez with the address of the decorated location and category at (714) 768-9683. The Crestlights contest will be judged after dark the week before Christmas, weather permitting, and each person registered will be notified of the approximate time of the judging so they can turn on all the lights and “bells and whistles.” Deadline for registration is Sunday, Dec. 17.

“Make this town be a winner and shine with beautiful sparkling lights and become a winner yourself by signing up for the Crestlights contest,” added Lopez.
