Are you a young women between the ages of 16 and 18 who is interested in knowing more about becoming a firefighter?
Cal Fire has just the thing for you: Camp Cinder.
The mission of Camp Cinder, according to the Cal Fire website, is to provide young women a safe, dynamic, interactive and challenging environment to gain strength, knowledge and confidence in their ability to excel in the profession of firefighting and beyond. Upon completing the camp, young women will leave with a sense of empowerment and the confidence that they can succeed in any career they choose.

At the camp – which is offered at no charge – they will participate in hands-on experiences in firefighting, including rope skills, water rescue and hose movement, as well as leadership training and more.
The activities are supervised by dedicated female firefighters. This four-night sleep-away camp gives young women the chance to explore a career in fire protection.
Two camps will be offered in June: June 17-21 in Shasta at the Shasta College dorms and June 24-28 in San Luis Obispo on the Cal Poly campus.
Applications are available now through Jan. 31 at www.fire.ca.gov/Camp-Cinder. Campers selected for Camp Cinder will be notified the week of March 13.
Applicants are asked to describe what it is about fire and emergency services that interests them. They are also asked to describe ongoing commitments that reflect responsibility in their lives (such as paid employment, volunteer work, sports). And while firefighting or medical experience is not required to participate in Camp Cinder, applicants are asked to describe any experience they have had.
