In an effort to assist mountain shoppers with their holiday purchases, the Crestline Lions Club is offering a wide selection of See’s Candy this Christmas season. By doing this they provide locals the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of See’s Candy without the need to drive down the hill, search for a parking spot and stand in the long lines at the See’s shop.

This week the Lions opened up a pop-up store along the side of the building between the Crestline post office and Goodwin’s mini-market. They will be there daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Anyone who wishes to order a special item or verify an item is still in stock should call President Catherine Johnson at (909) 338-5758.

This is also a major fundraiser for the Crestline Lions Club. By raising funds, they are able to do so much for the community. This next year they are joining with the Crestline-Lake Gregory Rotary Club to fund the dumpsters at the trailhead at the Heart Rock hiking trail, to give visitors an appropriate place to throw their trash instead of in the forest.

This fundraiser will also support the Lions’ major service project of protecting sight, by purchasing eye exams and free glasses for those who need them locally, and supporting guide dogs for the blind. Locally they give out high school scholarships and give out scholarships to the Boys & Girls Club so children have a safe and educational after-school place to go.

They also support the senior lunch program, the community Thanksgiving dinner and were involved handing out water during all the Corks & Hops events. They supported the Scots Lodge at Rim High School and seasonal projects at Lake Arrowhead Elementary School, plus many more projects that benefit youth.

Yearly, they support the Crestline Chamber in their events such as the Fall Festival and the Duck Derby. They won a prize for their float in the Jamboree Days parade this year.

Last winter they dug out fire hydrants for the benefit of the firefighters in case of a fire, gave out emergency supplies including snow shovels, brought up food for the community and gave it out after Goodwin’s roof collapsed and gave out warm clothing during the snow disaster.

Last month they held a firewood raffle in which community member Lori Geist won a cord of firewood. She had purchased a lot of the $1 tickets since she does heat with wood and was quite grateful to win.  She is also a previous winner of this raffle, which she attributes to both luck and purchasing lots of tickets to support the Lions Club and in appreciation of having won in the past. She was shocked to win again.

The club members have fun while they fulfill their motto of “We Serve.” They generally meet for dinner the fourth Tuesday of each month at Leisure Shores. This last year the Lions district recognized the Crestline Lions Club for the significant amount of service they provided and the impact they have made on the community in a positive way.
