On Dec. 20, 2022, Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station Deputy Victoria Twardowski was dispatched to a residence in Twin Peaks in response to a report of a subject who had overdosed on an unknown narcotic.
Upon arrival, Twardowski discovered an unresponsive male with an apparent loss of heart function, breathing and consciousness. Twardowski, who began a medical assessment, did not find any external injuries and summoned medical personnel to assist.
Upon learning that the unidentified man had ingested fentanyl, Twardowski found drug paraphernalia next to him, administered one dose of Narcan and began CPR. According to Sheriff’s Public Information Office Lyndsi Garrett, after about 30 seconds, the man began to breathe.
Subsequently, medical personnel from San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived and took over. The still-unidentified man was then transported to St. Bernardine Medical Center to undergo a medical evaluation. Due to Twardowski’s efforts, the man survived the apparent overdose.
More recently, said Garrett, Twardowski – who has since been promoted to the rank of detective – was nominated for and received the department’s lifesaving award.
