I’m 16 and eager to have a real boyfriend, one who holds your hand on campus, one who “calls” you in the evening to say goodnight, not a texter. Is this possible? Can I expect kindness from a boy and not be rushed into any out-of-bounds physical stuff?
The talk is that if you make out with a boy, that you are a tease unless you “go all the way.” I’m certainly not ready for any of that.
I feel as if I was born 50 years too late. My favorite groups are the Beach Boys and the Beatles! What is wrong with me?
Bell Bottoms in Blue Jay
Dear Bell Bottoms,
Bless your heart, my child. I thought the youth of our time were lost, but you’ve now set me straight on that matter.
Be brave and follow your own wise path, not the road of fools. High school is but a teeny tiny bit of your life; don’t let it be even a teeny tiny bit of regret.
I am very sure that your kind prince is looking for you, too. Keep your head up and that big bright smile on your face. He’ll find you.
(Just between us, I married my high school sweetheart. We were not intimate until after graduation. We’ve been happily in love for over 50 years.)
