The Rim of the World Interpretive Association (ROWIA) will hold its annual spring plant sale this Saturday, April 27.
The funds raised will be used for maintenance and upkeep of the Arboretum. ROWIA hopes to refresh the paint on the booth and signs and replace signs that were damaged during last year’s blizzard.
The plant sale begins at 9:00 a.m. but buyers quite often line up as early as 7:30 a.m. The plants that will be for sale are native to the area and are purchased from a wholesaler known for its high-quality product. They plan to have more than 400 plants of 28 different varieties.
ROWIA’s aim in offering these plants for sale is to help their neighbors plant a perfect garden. According to the American Society of Landscape Architects, native plants require much less watering, fertilizer and pesticides. Native plants also create habitat and provide food for many different native animals including birds, pollinators and small mammals.
Remember, members receive a 20-percent discount at the plant sale.
The Heaps Peak Arboretum is located at 29358 Highway 18 in Skyforest.
