Chess takes off at Mountain High

As of last October – when teacher Susan Williams stepped up to be the faculty advisor – students at Mountain High have been learning and improving their chess skills. Overseeing the chess club is Keith Martin, who has been bringing chess to the Rim schools for several years. The Mountain High club has been meeting at lunch. “All of the kids had chess experience,” Martin said, “but at varying levels. I helped them improve their ‘game’ as well as improve their self-esteem and confidence.” Pictured are Coach Keith Martin, Brandon Phillips, Alex Carmora, Rylan Houston, Kaleb Martinez, Brendon Nelson and faculty advisor Susan Williams.
