The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC) will be coming to Crestline for the next couple of weeks to meet with those residents and business owners who have already filed claims with FEMA and San Bernardino County but were denied after the winter storms of 2023, or those residents who have residential damages that have been unresolved.

They will also be offering to help those homeowners who need help with utility bills such as electrical, gas, water and trash bills. Their motto is “Helping People, Changing Lives.”

They arrived at the end of April and determined there were a lot of unmet needs after the winter 2023 storms. CAPSBC will be returning on Fridays, setting up their mobile office center in the North Shore parking lot of Lake Gregory, from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. They would like local residents who need their assistance to make an appointment, at (909) 723-1500, to talk with their financial counselors when they get up the mountain to determine what they can do for you. See their Facebook site to find the many ways they help at: https://www.facebook.com/CAPSBC?mibextid=ZbWKwL

Many people on the mountain have been told, if they do not remove or trim some trees, their insurance will be canceled. CAPSBC can arrange to have the trees cut to help retain insurance.

When meeting with the CAPSBC counselors, they do require some income and financial records and copies of household bills, paid or not. They also want photos of before the storm and the after-storm damages and a record of any repairs, those paid or unpaid bills, and the remaining damages that may still exist today, as well as any damaged trees. They also need records of any insurance payments paid. Also, they’d like to see any FEMA denial letters you may have received and any appeal letters, or a denial by any nonpublic agency you may have applied to, like the Red Cross.

The Community Action Partnership changes people’s lives and it improves communities by offering the spirit of hope. “We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other, which makes America a better place to live.”
