For the 10th consecutive year, the Boys & Girls Club of the Mountain Communities has received a donation from Subaru of San Bernardino. At a ceremony held at Subaru of San Bernardino on Thursday, May 23, Marcy Vega, CEO of the Crestline-based Boys & Girls Club, was gifted with a donation of $40,500 from Subaru of San Bernardino owner Clifford Cummings.
This was all made possible by funds donated by Subaru’s “Share the Love” event and was a collaboration between Subaru of America and Subaru of San Bernardino.
When asked how the funds would be spent, Vega replied, “We have a phenomenal partnership with Subaru and the funding will help us run our 12-core program that serves over 130 children aged 5 to 18, and it will provide scholarships for families in need,” she said. Vega added that 15-to 18-year-old members volunteer to help kids with their homework and take them outside for exercise and to engage in sports activities.
Noting that school will soon be out for summer vacation, Vega said, “Our summer program will help kids with reading and writing skills so they don’t forget them and will be better prepared when school is back in session in the fall,” adding that their pre-K summer program prepares kids for kindergarten and sets them up for success at school.
Whan asked how it feels to be involved with these children’s lives, Subaru General Manager Pepe Cervantes said, “It’s amazing to know that we can contribute to children’s lives and be a part of this hometown organization.”
